[ We are once again treated to a video of the inside of a gym, courtesy of Talim's Dragonite, Kalana.

The camera struggles to focus as Talim's Emolga and Swoobat move to perch on either of Kalana's shoulders, eager for a show. Talim is in polite conversation with Jasmine for the moment, but when she steps back to begin the battle, things end just as quickly as they begin.

To face Jasmine's Skarmory, Talim brings out her inherited Typhlosion, Ira. The normally moody pokémon has a bit of a wicked grin on her face. ]

I know you're a veteran, Ira. Make Squalo proud, hm?

[ The Typhlosion needs little prompting, and the battle is over quickly, what with Ira's type advantage and the huge level gap. The fire-type pokémon makes quick work of the Gym leader's Magneton as well.

When Jasmine summons her Steelix, Talim recalls Ira, and sends out her Flygon, Yun-seong. ]

Just like we did with Bugsy's Scizor! Use Sand Tomb!

[ A whirlwind of sand kicks up with the motion of the pokémon's wings, effectively trapping the larger steel-type pokémon. With the Steelix unable to attack, Talim calls out her next command. ]

Flamethrower!

[ As the fire and the sand swirl together, a rather deadly mixture for the Steelix, the background music seems to suddenly change. Talim frowns at the ceiling for a brief moment, before her attention is drawn back to the gym, as the Steelix goes crashing to the ground rather loudly.

She confers with the gym leader once again, accepting her badge. When she turns back around, she catches Kalana with the 'gear. ]

Kalana! I thought I told you not to record my gym battles. Oh-- what--?

[ It's then that her Swoobat and Emolga come forward. Held between them in a sort of makeshift sling is a cupcake bearing a single candle. Ira lets forth a small stream of fire to light it.

Talim herself looks like she's near tears. ]
You guys! Should I make a birthday wish? [ She laughs. ] I can't think of anything I'd rather have more than all of you by my side.

[ The camera clicks on to reveal Talim looking a bit contemplative. The bright green head and pink flora of her Meganium, Dango, can be seen over her shoulder, if one cares to look. The background is moving, and it's clear she's riding the pokémon. In fact, anyone along Route 38 will find the tiny Wind Priestess sitting cross-legged on the Meganium's back as he pads along.

She also has something in her hand, and upon closer inspection, it's clearly a Fog Badge:

She twirls it idly between her fingers for a moment. ]

Four badges in the course of a year. I can think of a couple people who would be very disappointed with my progress.

[ She smiles then, a little amused. ]

I have been here for a year now. It's strange- it doesn't really seem like it's been that long. Even all that time spent in Ecruteak seemed to fly by. During my time here, I have built and trained a team. We're more like a family now, even with our new members. [ the camera pans to a black and yellow egg in her lap, and up again, to a Swoobat flying alongside the trundling Meganium, before settling back on Talim ]

I have made friends... and lost them as well, but that is the way of life no matter where you are. I'm grateful for what I do have, and glad that the people who have returned home were able to, even if I miss them. And I do miss them. [ she looks sad for a second, but the smile comes back quickly ]

So I guess I just wanted to thank you all, even if we haven't spoken much. Even the smallest conversations have shaped my experience here. This year has been unpredictable, yes, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.

[ Judging by the slight bob of the camera and the occasional glimpse of a building, Talim is walking as she's recording. She's making her way from the gym to the Pokémon Center. Talim smiles, holding something up for the camera to see.

It's not there for long, though, and she gives a little laugh, tucking the badge away. ]

I made Kalana promise not to record my battle with Falkner, but as you can see it ended in my favor. Syi Salika did most of the work.

[ From offscreen somewhere, there's an amused: ]

Scyyyther!

[ Talim gives her Scyther a smile, before continuing. ]

It must be difficult, being a gym leader. Especially when people take up the Gym Challenge late in their stay, like I did. My team is already creeping their way to level ninety. I have to wonder sometimes if, when they act outraged at losing, it's just an act. Surely it has to be. I can't imagine them leading happy lives if they truly take each loss that badly.

[ Whitney especially, but she won't say as much. She does look thoughtful for a moment, though ]

I think, if this were truly my home- if I had been born and raised here- I might entertain the thought of becoming a gym leader.

But that's a silly thought, right?

Scyther? Scy.

Anyway, I'll be heading back to Goldenrod soon. If anybody would like to take the shortcut, you're welcome to join me.

[ The feed kicks on to the interior of the Azalea gym. Kalana the Dragonite is working the camera again, since Talim is letting some of the pokémon on the less-experienced end of her roster take this battle. Granted, the "less-experienced" end of her roster ranges in level from the mid-60's to the mid-70's.

As Talim moves to her place across from the gym leader, she can be heard saying a little prayer to the wind. ]
Wind, share with us your courage.

[ ExpandA deep breath, and she calls out her first pokmon- ) ]
